<br />
Just a quick update.<br />
As you can see I am not publishing lately and there is a reason for that. I have been engaged into a very large project that keeps me busy 7x24 and, unfortunately, away from photography and this blog. I hope that everything will settle down in the next month or two and I can do again what I like the most - take pictures!<br />
<br />
All the best,<br />

This time I didn't take any cameras except old little DMC-LX5.<br />

I was thinking of replacing LX5 with LX100 or RX100 as my vacation camera, but now I am not sure. It still works and I am happy with results. <br />

I had an opportunity to use a variety of new cameras, lenses, post processing tools but most of all I enjoyed taking pictures. Here is my quick roundup.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh78CsrcGoGgceWslhUKgSIPMYEFg-lVuqIzJzqYHp99_AtKjLeR3Nlc0dJ2ft6p0IClGE-msE8lgy5OFKzovSu9zkMazNYEJcqCgodKC5pjUUanyWjduO3THeYz8X99KV8rXn2noZIwgts/s1600/_DSC2261.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh78CsrcGoGgceWslhUKgSIPMYEFg-lVuqIzJzqYHp99_AtKjLeR3Nlc0dJ2ft6p0IClGE-msE8lgy5OFKzovSu9zkMazNYEJcqCgodKC5pjUUanyWjduO3THeYz8X99KV8rXn2noZIwgts/s1600/_DSC2261.jpg" height="262" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Digital Gear. Back in January Fuji released XT-1, a great addition to their line-up. But after using the camera for couple weeks I decided to keep XPro-1, still love this camera for its original x-trans sensor. Same goes for new Sigma DP2 Quattro, decided to stay with DP2 Merrill. I bought and sold Nikon 800E. Don’t get me wrong, the camera and the image quality are fantastic, just not my type of a camera. I also had an opportunity to try 800E with Zeiss 85/1.4 Otus APO Planar and results were mind blowing.<br />
Digital Post Processing. Iridient Developer remains my # 1 raw converter. Now I am using it not only to process x-trans files but other raw formats as well. I just tried 3.0 beta 4 and was very much impressed with new features and especially with new sharpening algorithm Iridient Reveal. Wow. I think ID3 is also faster now. BTW, <a href="http://www.iridientdigital.com/" target="_blank">Iridient Developer</a> is on sale until December 31st. Other raw converters worth to mention were RawTherapee and LightZone.<br />
Film gear. In 2014 I had two new additions to my camera collection, Yashica Electro 35 GTN and Hasselblad 500 C/M. Both are great. And the only one addition to my legacy lens collection was MD Zoom35~70 1/3.5. This lens is absolutely fantastic.<br />
Film Post Processing. Not too many changes here, Agfa Rodinal 1:50 is my #1 developer. If you don’t want to bother with DIY development, then IlfordLab is highly recommended for B&W, excellent service.<br />
<br />
Plans for 2015? My film journey continues. Film still has a lot to offer, especially with the prices of great cameras and lenses so low and because I simply love artistic qualities of the media. But I didn't abandon digital of course, and planning to try new Sony A7 II soon. Considering my extensive collection of legacy glass this full frame camera with IBIS looks very attractive. I am waiting for new Fuji 140-400mm f4 / 5.6 (?) Super Telephoto and possible XPro1 replacement.<br />
<br />
<br />
2015 is quickly approaching and I wish you a relaxing holiday season and photographically exciting New Year.<br />
<br />
<br />
All the best,<br />

But since my old trusty iPhone 4s (IOS 8.1) is always with me I decided to try several apps to see if they can be useful for a film photography.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBcWw3NYGBze_EH-UQRIqqDRVkh9Xp5RlquPunhYkmn8hUNo-RAqzPLIhMA3oC2LdGL21eoN4yjXMHM3BqMLpGTmJyDuxFMY6QoYImiSrrY_ssFCSiBeMTEajcuB4t2ubFEZk6yXnRjLLj/s1600/_DSF2487.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBcWw3NYGBze_EH-UQRIqqDRVkh9Xp5RlquPunhYkmn8hUNo-RAqzPLIhMA3oC2LdGL21eoN4yjXMHM3BqMLpGTmJyDuxFMY6QoYImiSrrY_ssFCSiBeMTEajcuB4t2ubFEZk6yXnRjLLj/s1600/_DSF2487.jpg" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
I completely dismissed image manipulating / organizing apps and focused only on those that, supposedly, can help with shooting film. After spending $ and time I have to say that majority of apps are just waste. But not all.<br />
So here is my pick listed in order of typical photo workflow.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<b>1. Prepare for the trip</b><br />
<br />
<a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/the-photographers-ephemeris/id366195670?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo%3D4" target="_blank">TPE (The Photographer's Ephemeris)</a><br />
This is great app. Useful for every outdoor photographer (film or digital). And one of the most expensive in my collection.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXYwizLclSd7jkeRBb4Tx0MdmODKBU41BIjm5LE1BUxUJy7iO5BVkdSizc91yY_g1WkgcnOQTho_So0GjtdIurmRAYdKojAeOszoiX-1pPOLmtDgSpGDb95irvFUuwuPklS_uNVMA342My/s1600/screenshot_410.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXYwizLclSd7jkeRBb4Tx0MdmODKBU41BIjm5LE1BUxUJy7iO5BVkdSizc91yY_g1WkgcnOQTho_So0GjtdIurmRAYdKojAeOszoiX-1pPOLmtDgSpGDb95irvFUuwuPklS_uNVMA342My/s1600/screenshot_410.jpg" /></a></div>
This app "helps you plan outdoor photography shoots in natural light, particularly landscape and urban scenes. It's a map-centric sun and moon calculator: see how the light will fall on the land, day or night, for any location on earth."<br />
<br />
There is a learning curve, so be prepared to read/watch tutorials. Try fee desktop version first if not sure.<br />
<br />
<b>2. On location</b><br />
<br />
<a href="https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/pocket-light-meter/id381698089?mt=8" target="_blank">Pocket Light Meter</a><br />
I have already <a href="http://vkphotoblog.blogspot.ca/search/label/Pocket%20Light%20Meter" target="_blank">reviewed</a> this little app and found it very useful. Works really well.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZUKy0yT3PnOWA2Gdego2wkm9AtUI77CsdIJL9YeteVt53kjSXBext9ee7bzK_qo6oCvCovUC_caBs-X0pF5bnj-a43tYT1BUW1UDz8uP0Pk6zUkivBBCNCVmIWHtH_Xrwq86Z_Gr2KkGf/s1600/screenshot_153.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZUKy0yT3PnOWA2Gdego2wkm9AtUI77CsdIJL9YeteVt53kjSXBext9ee7bzK_qo6oCvCovUC_caBs-X0pF5bnj-a43tYT1BUW1UDz8uP0Pk6zUkivBBCNCVmIWHtH_Xrwq86Z_Gr2KkGf/s1600/screenshot_153.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
The latest version also includes colour temperature/white balance meter for iOS 8 devices. I tested this app against standard photo light meters (Minolta, Gossen, Nikon , etc) and readings are very accurate. If you like the app don't forget to send a good pint to developer :)<br />
<br />
<a href="https://itunes.apple.com/app/manual-cam/id893229199?ls=1&mt=8" target="_blank">Manual Cam</a><br />
This app gives you full manual control over the iPhone camera (manual focus, ISO, Shutter speed, EV). For iPhones with IOS 8 only.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbUJRpqG8QAN6zclKoNMKF3TZQjXdalmVuqzVsQ2rr0yaMbygti-kOz7lXguMdyj1oygAh3YoOG1nNecd3x8n5yYrcVUBafNtFBgQFdpWeZxnpYpLiS6iBsf9VFPAkDVmTOdRne4UDVcVW/s1600/screenshot_405.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbUJRpqG8QAN6zclKoNMKF3TZQjXdalmVuqzVsQ2rr0yaMbygti-kOz7lXguMdyj1oygAh3YoOG1nNecd3x8n5yYrcVUBafNtFBgQFdpWeZxnpYpLiS6iBsf9VFPAkDVmTOdRne4UDVcVW/s1600/screenshot_405.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I like exposure compensation in particular.<br />
I was using this app to take test shots in B&W/square format, to see what the final photo will look like on the film. Like with Polaroid backs long time ago it saved me many frames.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ihandy-level-free/id299852753?mt=8" target="_blank">iHandy Level</a><br />
Yes, I have a tiny level on my tripod which is absolutely useless. I just can't level the camera with it. But this app does wonders.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPHEFQOKqSVNX6mpEbxXxwiH-5hnBpGQwGpusdStexB0IojVGiCP7UMV9jFQyqIETqjOgbB4thYNKlxjj3x3q-2frgV8gvn9fVOc2OTKwXRJvjlVrhZ05p6Es7Rc3xJoOjhP9o851gxSf8/s1600/_DSF2477.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPHEFQOKqSVNX6mpEbxXxwiH-5hnBpGQwGpusdStexB0IojVGiCP7UMV9jFQyqIETqjOgbB4thYNKlxjj3x3q-2frgV8gvn9fVOc2OTKwXRJvjlVrhZ05p6Es7Rc3xJoOjhP9o851gxSf8/s1600/_DSF2477.jpg" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Great free app, helps me a lot with keeping horizon level straightened.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/photoexif/id618666220?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo%3D4" target="_blank">PhotoExif</a><br />
Latest addition to my photo apps.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizS8lICmNXG-65rZgMFn3LWtWa__4Tr5wIHlVaTg1odyPFOJxtVBJG_pZZadHM426ym2qgWo05VAPXXXBB4nahyphenhyphenGYCvC5iemt2P-x5HoZ8jRJqYO_ZAAfof41SiI_E4_3fHuCiMw4lQFr_/s1600/screenshot_407.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizS8lICmNXG-65rZgMFn3LWtWa__4Tr5wIHlVaTg1odyPFOJxtVBJG_pZZadHM426ym2qgWo05VAPXXXBB4nahyphenhyphenGYCvC5iemt2P-x5HoZ8jRJqYO_ZAAfof41SiI_E4_3fHuCiMw4lQFr_/s1600/screenshot_407.jpg" /></a></div>
This app allows you to record film, camera, lens, aperture, shutter speed and GPS location of your photographs. My "Hasselblad" version:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0d3a-uGmuHBHLaxvotcGnIr0xnGjngScwimJbM9FIkbu3HtCKyxT6Wfw9fgDOEBLIe4R3IoiSdoflGxE6F0UXitEtr4qx6s5qieR1yGnS-wy4zUp8MZjJJMg0mYiZs-TgTb4Ni0Co8zo3/s1600/_DSF2490.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0d3a-uGmuHBHLaxvotcGnIr0xnGjngScwimJbM9FIkbu3HtCKyxT6Wfw9fgDOEBLIe4R3IoiSdoflGxE6F0UXitEtr4qx6s5qieR1yGnS-wy4zUp8MZjJJMg0mYiZs-TgTb4Ni0Co8zo3/s1600/_DSF2490.jpg" height="320" width="229" /></a></div>
<br />
But that's not all. Install companion <a href="http://photistics.com/" target="_blank">PhotoExifDesktop</a>, run it on your computer and select the folder with your film scans (jpegs or tiffs). Then tap on "Develop" and "Export" in the PhotoExif mobile app and both applications will communicate to let you add the information you recorded in the mobile app as EXIF data to your JPG or TIFF files. Isn't it cool? My LightRoom catalogue loves it.<br />
<br />
<b>Back home, final steps</b><br />
<br />
<a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/massive-dev-chart-timer/id402405770?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo%3D4" target="_blank">Massive Dev</a><br />
I develop B&W film myself, and this application, while not cheap, is absolutely a "must have" for me.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEja5VIe1mYgnDNJf8Muz8V9fGDtrW94gR1pxg8kpY3GtIOoaBhqJJuSo70X0rxFC4mdn2qHl7J-q7MurT6tgcezNct65svpMJFP04GYKzk4jd3tzPV80t-uxOVqzya334oVzud5fQIWzv_f/s1600/screenshot_408.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEja5VIe1mYgnDNJf8Muz8V9fGDtrW94gR1pxg8kpY3GtIOoaBhqJJuSo70X0rxFC4mdn2qHl7J-q7MurT6tgcezNct65svpMJFP04GYKzk4jd3tzPV80t-uxOVqzya334oVzud5fQIWzv_f/s1600/screenshot_408.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
"The Massive Dev Chart is the world's largest film development chart with easy to use multi step timer and darkroom support for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. "<br />
You can also save you own recipes. Great app.<br />
<br />
<br />
But.<br />
At the end of the day you don't need any of those to enjoy analogue film photography.<br />
<br />
All the best and thanks for dropping by,<br />

I am partial to abstract patterns created by leafless branches and trunks. And great object to exercise my skills in square composition. Dark grey overcast skies didn’t stop me from getting out for a ramble.<br />

The second one looks better to my eyes.<br />
<br />
As a side note, I am still working on my film developing skills. I tried my newly acquired tank and couple frames were lost because developer didn't cover emulsion evenly along the upper spiral. May be I just need to put more developer and agitate a bit more next time.<br />
<br />
That's all for now and thanks for dropping by,<br />

I ordered foam pad and foil from eBay for $16 and installed it myself following provided instructions, it was pretty easy and straight forward. Now it was time to take the camera out for a spin.<br />
Despite nice foliage colours I decided to use B&W film. I took only one roll of 120 film with me, 12 exposures. Actually 11 because I quickly wasted the first frame by checking the shutter without the dark slide.<br />
<br />

<br />
Since colours were no longer in play I focused on light, shapes, textures and lines. All pictures below were taken with Ilford Delta 100 and developed in Rodinal 1:50 for 14 min @ 20 C˚<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
Film definitely slowed me down. I find myself spending more time "studying" the object, choosing the right angle, shapes and lines. Composition is different with square format and very enjoyable. It is easier to balance the square and you don't need to follow the rule of thirds.<br />

But I do appreciate creative capabilities that new applications can bring.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn7denJvRJ0tKBcIPoIPT3iB8ZjiHeyu4O9ZDqwpQ1860cTe_sCKdqwF0y3q8Hg8cOV68NV-y7b5XxdxGtlfRoYqZGApaRNUnkFW5CTBLuDMP6-J6kyWv4FZ4kJ3Tv5xw9a9ZwxH25I6nS/s1600/P1010061-Edit_TI.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn7denJvRJ0tKBcIPoIPT3iB8ZjiHeyu4O9ZDqwpQ1860cTe_sCKdqwF0y3q8Hg8cOV68NV-y7b5XxdxGtlfRoYqZGApaRNUnkFW5CTBLuDMP6-J6kyWv4FZ4kJ3Tv5xw9a9ZwxH25I6nS/s1600/P1010061-Edit_TI.jpg" height="275" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The number of image transforming apps is endless, new effects pop up every day. Most of them look very similar, but two caught my attention, <a href="http://www.topazlabs.com/impression" target="_blank">Topaz Impression</a> and <a href="https://macphun.com/tonality" target="_blank">Macphun Tonality Pro</a>.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
Topaz Impression completely transforms the photo image into a "painting-like" picture.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwE4Gy8BSYiX3HIZXEfsv9mtD0aNuOM1l7iKJNYrsQV1VDLZUL6uwNHGxQV9Hk7ypNxCjlXbHZ4asZEfmKxgj0o9oDANB9LOB7tUZHG5XKLGngeKg5WdU3BLIDRo-F6u_bPftCK_rHzXJa/s1600/screenshot_401.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwE4Gy8BSYiX3HIZXEfsv9mtD0aNuOM1l7iKJNYrsQV1VDLZUL6uwNHGxQV9Hk7ypNxCjlXbHZ4asZEfmKxgj0o9oDANB9LOB7tUZHG5XKLGngeKg5WdU3BLIDRo-F6u_bPftCK_rHzXJa/s1600/screenshot_401.jpg" height="207" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
You can choose your favourite painting style or method from a variety of different of presets<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiq9iA9d3uu2F-8Vi9GvHppX6sIv3K34KCp3pB5UJFXhOHD98NG0rsuuViWQ8E2nwqTA8XDdM9jDAWZ-gbAjvO0gvv3zs0MW8NRMVH5TogULH66tV69HGMnckKtuyL8V6BuB1FsAeineit8/s1600/_DSF4063_TI.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiq9iA9d3uu2F-8Vi9GvHppX6sIv3K34KCp3pB5UJFXhOHD98NG0rsuuViWQ8E2nwqTA8XDdM9jDAWZ-gbAjvO0gvv3zs0MW8NRMVH5TogULH66tV69HGMnckKtuyL8V6BuB1FsAeineit8/s1600/_DSF4063_TI.jpg" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
and each preset can be further altered to your liking. The program is well integrated with LR or can be used as a standalone app.<br />
<br />
Definitely fun to use but I can't justify $99 price tag for something that doesn't have any practical use for me.<br />
<br />
Another one is Macphun Tonality Pro, a B&W conversion program. This app supports raw (including x-trans) and 16 bit files and comes with over 150 presets. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi13hs2rLAW4nrV4POMLdDIz2ylcpL2yI4SuXngSVH-t-r3kTkZWlM5ah2VYpuHc8zvUn-2B_5cLpP4qNudzbAEKF-fxC8Qu4oduou7FR1vNdu3CAo8Dc7ju325Q4cjCeiPgtvNtrYpzzYn/s1600/screenshot_400.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi13hs2rLAW4nrV4POMLdDIz2ylcpL2yI4SuXngSVH-t-r3kTkZWlM5ah2VYpuHc8zvUn-2B_5cLpP4qNudzbAEKF-fxC8Qu4oduou7FR1vNdu3CAo8Dc7ju325Q4cjCeiPgtvNtrYpzzYn/s1600/screenshot_400.jpg" height="207" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
You have control over all parameters, including sharpening, stacking different effects as layers and applying effects locally using brush tool. Not bad at all for a $69 program.<br />
<br />
Unfortunately in some cases it exhibits strange virtical artifacts, most likely easily correctable with few adjustments.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjOsNWQvux4DGOVoMWwxwfkVhexvUJfLd2sKByiMScrQXjBj4hnr8-D0krejX3nkRGtsLlO2WFDplN0FZ84Huz7STWE77HyM_fx6HKTUE4AQ32PG2UO6HMxytDmh8JY0vx8C3HjpYVBp02/s1600/screenshot_402.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjOsNWQvux4DGOVoMWwxwfkVhexvUJfLd2sKByiMScrQXjBj4hnr8-D0krejX3nkRGtsLlO2WFDplN0FZ84Huz7STWE77HyM_fx6HKTUE4AQ32PG2UO6HMxytDmh8JY0vx8C3HjpYVBp02/s1600/screenshot_402.jpg" height="185" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I like it but I don't need it.<br />
<br />
I already have Silver Efex Pro 2 (Nik Collection) and it does excellent B&W conversion for me :)<br />
<br />
All the best,<br />

<span style="font-family: inherit;">Folks, let me state from the very beginning, I don’t want to start any debates film vs digital, everything below is just my opinion. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Any modern digital camera can easily out resolve the film, and a full frame (135mm) camera, like Nikon D810 paired with superb Zeiss Otus, will beat the cr* out of any medium format or even large format film cameras. Obviously a great shooting discipline and post processing skills are required to pull out the best from the modern sensors. Digital cameras are also fast, provide instant feedback and the number of photos one can take is only limited by the size of storage, and storage is reusable. With many filters available (DxO, Nik, Topaz, etc etc etc) you can simulate the film “look” with few extra clicks. Why bother with real film?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-small;">Hasselblad 500 C/M, CF Distagon 50/4 T*, Kodak 400TX</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 8px; min-height: 13px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Long time ago I realized that my pursuit for more details, more accurate colours, low noise or better dynamic range is pointless because it is not what always makes a great photo.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 8px; min-height: 13px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"></span></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 8px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">I shoot film differently. Film slows me down. May be because subconsciously I am aware that each frame cost me money and I can’t instantly validate what was just shot. If I missed I missed.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbwNckmbSvoBehafiCKyrkLIdDD7fc34zbz2mKXfnlkvUp5kNp56Pmf855B9Qks4bpgK0SRmwjLFpjdTpFrwqGLuk9w78-S_YWzb_3TG7ynLqZ5SIOVCsJ8w5Bt0d0pzsRtpye8lQvvjj0/s1600/20140926trix400b_6-Edit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbwNckmbSvoBehafiCKyrkLIdDD7fc34zbz2mKXfnlkvUp5kNp56Pmf855B9Qks4bpgK0SRmwjLFpjdTpFrwqGLuk9w78-S_YWzb_3TG7ynLqZ5SIOVCsJ8w5Bt0d0pzsRtpye8lQvvjj0/s1600/20140926trix400b_6-Edit.jpg" height="400" width="391" /></a></div>

<span style="font-size: x-small;">Hasselblad 500 C/M, C Planar 80/2.8 T*, Kodak 400TX</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 8px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">If I chose the wrong exposure, didn’t focus on the right object, didn’t level the horizon it’s over. But first I have to go back home and develop film and only then to see my mistakes </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 8px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">With film I am spending way more time thinking about composition, light and textures. But surprisingly the keeper rate is also higher. Film makes me a better photographer regardless of other media I am using.</span></div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Unusually warm calm weather, blue skies and foliage in full bloom make absolutely perfect conditions to enjoy colour photography. But hurry up, it won't last long.<br />
<a name='more'></a>During my trip I mostly used the X-Pro1 camera with selected legacy and XF lenses.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It took me couple trials to capture an unusually strong for XF 14/2.8 "starburst" effect (the file was converted to B&W in Silver Efex Pro 2 to emphasize the texture rather than colours)<br />

Most of the trees are still green here in Toronto, but I prefer to start early, you never know how long the full bloom will last. If you want to get the most out of your fine sensor you need good glass, excellent post processing techniques and shooting discipline. And shooting discipline (holding the camera steady) is my main problem. I missed so many shots just because I didn't hold the camera steady enough. When I am using the old legacy or even modern lenses (with no IS/IBIS) the Golden Reciprocal Rule just doesn’t work for me anymore. May be it's just my hands.<br />
I know that any decent tripod can resolve the problem by improving stability, but they are bulky and take time to set up. Monopods are much easier to manage. After a quick search I ordered one from eBay, $80 delivered to Canada.<br />

<br />
I like monopod's height and sturdiness.<br />
<br />
It could be used for shutter speeds longer than 1/15 in collapsed position. But be very careful, it is not tripod.<br />

<br />
<br />
After couple days of using it I have to say that I am happy with my purchase. It is comfortable to use in the field and it works well supporting my cameras + heavy lenses when I need 1/125 - 1/30 shutter speeds.<br />
<br />
And .... I can always use it as a walking stick or as a club for self defence :)<br />
<br />
Update:<br />
The monopod is called Psyche 3202, you can find exactly the same monopod under different names, just search ebay for “Unipod Monopod 3 Legs Base”, the ball head name is KS-0 Tripod Ball<br />
Cheers,<br />

Finally I got time to compare raw output from Fujifilm X-PRO 1, Sigma DP2M and Nikon D800E.<br />

<br />
The test below is very much unscientific, it was conducted just out of my own curiosity. All three cameras are totally different beasts and putting them side by side might be not fair, but I as many others was wondering how uncommon CFA (X-Trans and Foveon, APC-S) sensors stack up against leading 24x36 Bayer.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
Shooting conditions:<br />
All cameras were set to: AWB, RAW, on a tripod with self-timer, aperture @ f/8, auto-focus<br />
<br />
Nikon D800E: lens Nikkor AFS 50/1.4, post processed in ACR 8.6<br />
X-Pro1: lens Fujinon XF 35/1.4, post processed in Iridient Developer 2.4.3<br />
DP2M: lens Sigma 30/2.8, post processed in SPP 5.5.3 <br />

<br />
After reviewing hundreds of files all I can say that image quality is less dependant on the modern sensor size but rather on a good lens, shooting discipline (tripod!) and post processing skills. Another observation was that Sigma DP2M is yes, a "one trick pony", but if you know what you are doing you will be rewarded with mind blowing IQ.<br />
<br />
I also realized that moving forward from excellent IQs to great PQs is way more important for me :)<br />
<br />
Feel free to download files, post process them using your favourite converters and draw your own conclusion.<br />
<br />
Thanks,<br />

During my recent trip to cottage I used Minolta a lot and really enjoyed the lens. Surprisingly the range ( ~ 53-105 on Fuji X-Pro 1) was very useful and it was my main "walk around" lens during the whole trip.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I did some close ups, shot hand-held fast moving objects - no problem. The focus was really easy to attain.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
Even wide opened the lens consistently produced sharp, contrasty images with very pleasing colours, OOF blurring and bokeh. My only (minor) concern is the lens shade, it fells off easily if not properly attached, I almost lost it on several occasions. Just be careful with it.<br />

Optically and mechanically the lens is great, the overall rendering is pretty much on par with modern Fujinon lenses. Nothing to complain about.<br />

Summer is not my favourite season for photography in the country, but I managed to snap a few.<br />

<br />
I mostly used XF 55-200 with X-Pro 1, but also tried my new-used Minolta 35-70 f/3.5 Zoom. I will post results in the next few days.<br />
All raw files were post processed in Iridient Developer with a little help of Nik filters.<br />

Imaging how I was disappointed to know that Fuji's super tele-photo zoom (rumoured 120-400) is now slated for release only at the end of 2015. Sigh...<br />
<br />
Thanks,<br />

But after reading some raving reviews about Minolta MD zoom 35-70 f/3.5 I took the plunge and got a very good copy (macro, 7 blades version) from eBay.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMgYzsdyH7-uzcpvTPqi_HPUMqSPz20lyHO8ouZO-MTGyoLPrWKUG__BgXLlQi986M8ShmYkQS-kkjK6qG0a0fHpgUSMEPP_b9H_ESDhXKbkWy4dfvqcSjc0KT0OkIRa1PNBYWxOD1Mx59/s1600/_SDI0696.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMgYzsdyH7-uzcpvTPqi_HPUMqSPz20lyHO8ouZO-MTGyoLPrWKUG__BgXLlQi986M8ShmYkQS-kkjK6qG0a0fHpgUSMEPP_b9H_ESDhXKbkWy4dfvqcSjc0KT0OkIRa1PNBYWxOD1Mx59/s1600/_SDI0696.jpg" height="270" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
The lens was designed in collaboration with Leitz (Leica Vario-Elmar-R 35-70 mm f / 3.5) and is highly regarded for its optical qualities.<br />
Here is my first impression.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
The lens is fairly compact, very well built with smooth operations and weighs 350gr. Specs: 8 elements in 7 groups, constant aperture f3.5, 7 aperture blades, filter diameter: 55 mm. I saw someone reported a 6-blade version, but may be it was just a typo. I just double checked and confirming that macro version has 7 blades.<br />

What can I say? So far I am very pleased. The lens is sharp, contrasty, with very well controlled distortion / vignetting and beautiful OOF blur / bokeh.<br />
<br />
It looks like all praises were fully justified and now I look forward to using it a lot during my next trip to the cottage country.<br />
<br />
Thanks,<br />

<br />
After reading some less than stellar reviews about this particular version (6 elements in 5 groups ) I decided to revisit the lens.<br />

I like the "dreamy, airy" rendering the lens produces. CA is no differ than on most of the legacy lenses and can be easily corrected during the post processing.<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTdTEJ6Kd3O8oODNgEeXBv3SnEy4CpqVJJ38qPsH22yWyWCQZ1eGx4XIIT18hIhcggkwiLN2dKCpfwdAzJNVGX3j5qd0AUq00YrG2BbufBCdhWQC8fJwgfczoFdnCgmQFOG1WKN_fbdaRy/s1600/_DSF0858_ID.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTdTEJ6Kd3O8oODNgEeXBv3SnEy4CpqVJJ38qPsH22yWyWCQZ1eGx4XIIT18hIhcggkwiLN2dKCpfwdAzJNVGX3j5qd0AUq00YrG2BbufBCdhWQC8fJwgfczoFdnCgmQFOG1WKN_fbdaRy/s1600/_DSF0858_ID.jpg" height="262" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
So at the end I didn't change my opinion, MC TELE ROKKOR-PF 135 mm 1:2.8 is a very good lens for MIL cameras with APS-C sensor. But now I am intrigued how 6/5 version stacks up again 4/4 design. I will compare both in couple weeks once the other lens arrives.<br />
<br />
And one more picture - Happy Birthday Canada!<br />

*** Update: Instead of buying a 4/4 version I decided to buy a difference lens, Minolta MD ZOOM 35-70 mm f / 3.5 <br />
I doubt that 4/4 is significantly better but zoom should be in a different league.***<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Today I had an opportunity to test the <b>pre production version</b> and here is my impression.<br />
<a name='more'></a>Loose aperture ring on Fuji lenses was always my concern. At the <a href="http://vkphotoblog.blogspot.ca/2014/06/at-event.html" target="_blank">Fuji event</a> I met <a href="http://www.street-photogs.com/" target="_blank">Leonard Ramos</a> who showed his hack, a rubber band to add some friction behind the aperture ring. This hack improves aperture ring control on the majority of the Fuji lenses.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPjCW59nlBNzaxusD9oFwPBJTU4biQCrD1zDZvES5wQ_KFAiC2fFW3TsoPq2xKzaDjmbXps_n2JUSZ1CCiuUWnK63jMvT4GiLXdyXh9Wexwd8PCvWmiPnJ-u6M1lUtBHEKquD0Jc2gALxd/s1600/_DSF0588.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPjCW59nlBNzaxusD9oFwPBJTU4biQCrD1zDZvES5wQ_KFAiC2fFW3TsoPq2xKzaDjmbXps_n2JUSZ1CCiuUWnK63jMvT4GiLXdyXh9Wexwd8PCvWmiPnJ-u6M1lUtBHEKquD0Jc2gALxd/s1600/_DSF0588.jpg" height="332" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
But after using XF 18-135 I can safely say: the rubber band is not needed for this lens. Aperture ring rotation and clicks just feel right. The lens is smaller and lighter than I expected, yet very well built. Solid.<br />
<br />
Next, I took the series of shots, mostly at f/5.6 and f/8.<br />

Image stabilization, 1/20 @ f:8, hand held<br />
The shutter speed was slow enough to blur the guy in the pink shirt on the stairs at the back while IS managed to keep the main scene tack sharp. Don't know about 5 stops but it was very impressive.<br />

<br />
My first impression is positive. The lens is an outdoorsman's dream. A single lens solution for someone who treasures light weight, compactness, robustness and yet versatility.<br />
<ul>
<li>Weather resistant</li>
<li>Very well built, smooth movements. Aperture ring finally feels right. </li>
<li>No too big and not too heavy, well balanced with XT-1</li>
<li>Covers good range (28 - 200), no need to swap lenses in the field</li>
<li>Image stabilization works really well, may reduce the need for a tripod</li>
</ul>
On the other hand, I saw CA here and there and details smearing in the corners, especially at 18 mm. Do not rush to replace your XF 18-55 and XF 55-200 yet.<br />
<br />
All the best,<br />

As a Fuji x-trans user my favourite free product is <a href="http://lightzoneproject.org/" target="_blank">LightZone</a> (you need to register to access the download area). The latest version 4.1.0~beta9 now includes dcraw 9.21 and improved tone curve for XT-1 raw files.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwN7q-1va9R8_n8xep1k5Q3uXxwfkcw4lD0dMvtn9ASgxxcaVzH99Bd32gk7AKpyvK_d4QjhfBFDfjSd8ePVIIX4NTG7QzIert0_wjUG83mImjH7HP-5kV0pRjpZHd_P1GLqxzudl1tB5P/s1600/screenshot_347.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwN7q-1va9R8_n8xep1k5Q3uXxwfkcw4lD0dMvtn9ASgxxcaVzH99Bd32gk7AKpyvK_d4QjhfBFDfjSd8ePVIIX4NTG7QzIert0_wjUG83mImjH7HP-5kV0pRjpZHd_P1GLqxzudl1tB5P/s1600/screenshot_347.jpg" height="210" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
What is LightZone? Obviously it is more than just a graphical front-end to dcraw. The quote from LZ website: "LightZone is professional-level digital darkroom software for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux, that includes RAW processing and editing. Rather than using layers in the way that other photo editors do, LightZone lets the user build up a stack of tools which can be rearranged, readjusted, turned off and on, and removed from the stack. It's a completely non-destructive editor, where any of the tools can be re-adjusted or modified later — even in a different editing session. A tool stack can even be copied to a batch of photos at one time. LightZone always operates in a 16-bit linear colour space with the wide gamut of ProPhoto RGB"<br />
<br />
I tested LightZone using very basic editing technique.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
I really like the interface. It is simple and well organized with two modes: Browse and Edit. While in Browse mode I made two changes in Preferences:<br />
<br />
un-checked Auto Save<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1bew2ZjRZn33XReN_34Wcp7txolHQ2YgWAaE_ch3lXTvc5HqKcrUY9BT99K_AkBS9mEk0mKPtD_ylBAk7R8w9_7ag6a5B0i8RJQcrV0TGeN33cXrK8zZ4Qhu-zDGjmiaiEQJyLBLH77UT/s1600/screenshot_350.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1bew2ZjRZn33XReN_34Wcp7txolHQ2YgWAaE_ch3lXTvc5HqKcrUY9BT99K_AkBS9mEk0mKPtD_ylBAk7R8w9_7ag6a5B0i8RJQcrV0TGeN33cXrK8zZ4Qhu-zDGjmiaiEQJyLBLH77UT/s1600/screenshot_350.jpg" height="210" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
and changed colour profile to ProPhoto RGB<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2GjdXCVCHRG-ousVdoswSfJ57XeqNdRFiSUWYOFaGXZjmd5veqi4WpX8gaMtWL1Dk0nUZy2TdMOfN4DVBaGzXB6siKAvzTTSZN-6efc-VtC9H7CRz-YFQZzLtgcrR2I6npalwgKARXdr9/s1600/screenshot_351.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2GjdXCVCHRG-ousVdoswSfJ57XeqNdRFiSUWYOFaGXZjmd5veqi4WpX8gaMtWL1Dk0nUZy2TdMOfN4DVBaGzXB6siKAvzTTSZN-6efc-VtC9H7CRz-YFQZzLtgcrR2I6npalwgKARXdr9/s1600/screenshot_351.jpg" height="210" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
you can also hide/unhide Folders and Info tabs to browse files in a full screen mode.<br />
<br />
In Edit mode you have Styles (presets) / History on the left and Tools/Info on the right. In my example I decided to leave Raw Adjustments tool at its default settings. Then I added Hue / Saturation tool and bumped up Vibrance /Saturation a bit.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk3eU-ZlzgZwEYqpN0VhGhgnGf3AB-3Jatx_LNS0yr1NWqTM7BUsW_1dq0d9kdYfZ2FULdFbr0rIHCHpu2iX36QT7zvzSs2RxdI4CJhpMFW0nhWFQFgvdMMZnVEyPBle89PguOpifJbajE/s1600/screenshot_352.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk3eU-ZlzgZwEYqpN0VhGhgnGf3AB-3Jatx_LNS0yr1NWqTM7BUsW_1dq0d9kdYfZ2FULdFbr0rIHCHpu2iX36QT7zvzSs2RxdI4CJhpMFW0nhWFQFgvdMMZnVEyPBle89PguOpifJbajE/s1600/screenshot_352.jpg" height="210" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
You can always compare adjusted image to the original by clicking and holding the <i>Orig</i> button at the top. You can also add the same tool several times (you'll see Hue/Saturation 1...2..etc) to the stack, re-arrange tools or delete them from the stack. Reminded me <a href="http://vkphotoblog.blogspot.ca/2014/03/perfect-effects-8-offer.html" target="_blank">Perfect Effects 8</a><br />
My next step was to sharpen up the image. I chose High-Pass Filter from Styles:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhF8unwXU_S3Et4bPOJ1Ij5c-MHAmcmKbwTiJP5TS_CmXznHMqii7mybdrw2Us9FOW7BUGp3ONBanHxJbkjdEXaCNro4t_5DSr9Xm8e2IsowsfAPbcA-wEbosJ9zPOucPJcwb-9K0WmpBS1/s1600/screenshot_353.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhF8unwXU_S3Et4bPOJ1Ij5c-MHAmcmKbwTiJP5TS_CmXznHMqii7mybdrw2Us9FOW7BUGp3ONBanHxJbkjdEXaCNro4t_5DSr9Xm8e2IsowsfAPbcA-wEbosJ9zPOucPJcwb-9K0WmpBS1/s1600/screenshot_353.jpg" height="211" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Immediately Sharpen tool showed up on the right side. Very clean results, now I am wondering if they using Richardson-Lucy Deconvolution algorithm for this.<br />
To improve the image contrast I applied Soft Wow 2 filter<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipEby6A9Rbm-Bv1-XxLchaSt7QCkiPvtruZV02ROqSf2jqJhCZOaCrMOREJiz5FIVCNN8JJ9CX5sSoqq-wvlh9-IPEEmiItPPGZLDRsKHgyd-Ynu_-g1cseNYbkL3MHCXk9-Fq6GTjN14G/s1600/screenshot_354.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipEby6A9Rbm-Bv1-XxLchaSt7QCkiPvtruZV02ROqSf2jqJhCZOaCrMOREJiz5FIVCNN8JJ9CX5sSoqq-wvlh9-IPEEmiItPPGZLDRsKHgyd-Ynu_-g1cseNYbkL3MHCXk9-Fq6GTjN14G/s1600/screenshot_354.jpg" height="211" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
which added two more tools (another Sharpen and Relight) on the right side. I can further adjust the image by increasing or decreasing sliders on each tool and then save my favourite set of tools/values as my own style<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxfi8UQP41-YHWj67U_0S_2tVtw5nfCNkVcZM0zhBAN2BlEiFvr2LKlYiBiGMU7PCRf4W2gQ81LiYJNwScd-xtS2Y32AoGHaM0cpsvZU7vyIeruOfTn_Zy_fV471dPYKn7oF416gKW5Apq/s1600/screenshot_355.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxfi8UQP41-YHWj67U_0S_2tVtw5nfCNkVcZM0zhBAN2BlEiFvr2LKlYiBiGMU7PCRf4W2gQ81LiYJNwScd-xtS2Y32AoGHaM0cpsvZU7vyIeruOfTn_Zy_fV471dPYKn7oF416gKW5Apq/s1600/screenshot_355.jpg" height="211" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Now I can save the final image<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQzVEjODsRBTcaH8la6FDBubfVVYQ6C3QJKBAsQcz1jSzghGp0dpRcp9-gVcL-B3lQUZfa1cmCIxXvEHslUPYPfzR4XD5qKxa3EFs4Vck2uJEN8jGeowMHg2qT-xNLqd623QRiYMIxLbA2/s1600/_DSF7587_lzn.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQzVEjODsRBTcaH8la6FDBubfVVYQ6C3QJKBAsQcz1jSzghGp0dpRcp9-gVcL-B3lQUZfa1cmCIxXvEHslUPYPfzR4XD5qKxa3EFs4Vck2uJEN8jGeowMHg2qT-xNLqd623QRiYMIxLbA2/s1600/_DSF7587_lzn.jpg" height="265" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is before and after:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3Lroq4iaVY92qzEwVs5zhAoWvrB90qypLrDFwx0vPMKEHSl7gBci09Gg0ZKAug1XaXRltm_CHJR7VPDGzyL1Hm6cD5h4z5Sjpb5UP4PxZRqkJZVnRJAJJKD3PsGYzzLF0G5RfJQ6b2PW5/s1600/screenshot_356.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3Lroq4iaVY92qzEwVs5zhAoWvrB90qypLrDFwx0vPMKEHSl7gBci09Gg0ZKAug1XaXRltm_CHJR7VPDGzyL1Hm6cD5h4z5Sjpb5UP4PxZRqkJZVnRJAJJKD3PsGYzzLF0G5RfJQ6b2PW5/s1600/screenshot_356.jpg" height="190" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I've just scratched the surface of LZ capabilities with this very basic example where I used only global adjustments. You can also apply selective adjustments using regions and Zonemapper/Zonefider.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
I suggest to check <a href="http://www.lightzoneproject.org/gallery/program-screenshots-mouse-over-images-see-description-click-expand" target="_blank">tutorial (screenshots)</a> if you would like to use these options more seriously than I did. <br />
<br />
Overall I am very pleased with LightZone 4.1.0~beta9. It is stable, works with all main operating systems, fairly fast and gives you tones of creative options. And it does support tricky Fuji x-trans raw files really well.<br />
<br />
